Norma Jean - The Anti-Mother

norma jean's new album, the anti-mother, reeks of old thrice (as in, pre-vheissu) vocals and typical nj rah rah fake-grindcore brutality. combining those sounds don't quite create a new sound that is wholly unique, but this is at least listenable enough if you remember to forget the greatness that preceded cory brandan. or maybe this album will just grow on me... i think i'm being hopeful here.

anyway. this is a leak; the album is to be released august 5th - on the same day as the faint's fasciinatiion. enjoy!

The six songs on this EP depict the spiritual path of a band whose journey has been blessed with happiness and marred by tragedy. With worldwide demand and a positive message, the Portland, OR based band will be touring throughout the year and beyond.

For fans of: Saosin, Underoath, old Thrice, Scary Kids Scaring Kids.

Oh, Sleeper - When I Am God

Members of the band have previously been a part of various acts including Terminal, Between The Buried and Me, and As Cities Burn.

Oh, Sleeper brings a full plate of heavy and dark guitars with thought out lyrics that refuse to shy away from truth. The lyrics have a strong purpose:

Why do we keep what holds us?
Why do I keep what holds me down?
Lose the weight of defeat.
It's time to stand your ground!
Vices like vipers
Speak in whispers.
My heel's the meat to sink their teeth,
Like the viper I kept
when You said, "Let go!"

Music is a weapon and they plan to fully utilize this divine appointment for nothing other than a purpose greater than themselves.

Ryan Conley (drummer)
Everyone in this project refuses to continue on with our lives until we've made the difference that we are supposed to make in music.
Lucas Starr (bass)
At the end of the day, a song is nothing more than a bunch of notes and chords strategically thrown together. I feel there is something more to this life than writing a hit song and selling records. Anyone can learn how to play an instrument, but what good is it if you only use that talent for self gratification?
