Our Last Night - The Ghosts Among Us

By request.
Of note: vocalist Trevor Wentworth is only 14 years old.
Our Last Night emerge as the fresh new face of rock with their explosive debut, The Ghosts Among Us. Produced by Steve Evetts (Senses Fail, Every Time I Die), the dynamic new album pushes boundaries with its blood pumping cocktail of brooding hardcore and cathartic rock. Lush melodic soundscapes interlaced with taut thrashing riffs on tracks like the irresistibly catchy "Escape" and the discordant anthem "Recovery" are a brash declaration of the genre's next heavyweights.

House Vs. Hurricane - Forfeiture

Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, House Vs. Hurricane are fast making a name for themselves. The band formed as six guys who all come from a variety of different musical influences (from August Burns Red, Poison the Well, Alexisonfire, Circa Survive to Herbie Hancock, Saves The Day, Bjork) with a desire to create something fresh and different in the heavy music scene. The result has caused quite a stir in the underground with a style of music that fuses ambiance, hardcore, rock, melody, experimental, electronica, alternative and more to create a sound that could be best described as progressive post-hardcore.

This is crazy good.

Underoath Discography

New album on the horizon (September 2, 2008), so I figured it's time for a discog!

I love this band. When I saw them in concert, I remember 2 songs, but for the remainder of the set I was on a natural high, and don't remember much. Other than it was incredible. It was an experience like no other. I also crowd-surfed and lost my phone during their set.

I'd recommend starting with Define The Great Line, an album that peaked at #2 on the US Billboard. Define is my favorite album of all time.

Unlike They're Only Chasing Safety, Define The Great Line was written by both Spencer Chamberlain (screams) and Aaron Gillepsie (drums/vox). Chamberlain would write the lyrics he would sing, Gillespie would do the same, and sometimes they would trade lyrics with each other. They're Only Chasing Safety was written completely by drummer and singer Aaron Gillespie. Track 5, "Sálmarnir", is keyboardist Christopher Dudley's cousin reading Psalm 50:1-6 in Russian. In the background is a live recording of the Psalm in English.

The first two albums are very different from the more recent ones, and feature a much darker, brutal sound.

NEW ALBUM (September 2, 2008)

Reuben

‘Look like tramps, sound like Kings’

Reuben are a three-piece musical group from United Kingdom. Their music can be said to be a fusion of alt-rock and hevy metal, as their songs cover a variety of styles, ranging from heavy and upbeat, such as their 2005 single "Blamethrower" to slower, more melodic songs such as their 2004 single "Moving to Blackwater". The former style of song often features vocalist Jamie switching between shouting and whispering, a technique often used in heavy metal and post-hardcore music.

Sky Eats Airplane - Everything Perfect On The Wrong Day

Sky Eats Airplane is a five-piece Nintendocore band out Fort Worth, TX. They booked shows and put out a 9-song album without any record label or promotion, acquiring fans and selling out shows mostly by word of mouth. The sound is an intriguing mix of Norma Jean and Sabrepulse.

mediafire

Last month they signed with Equal Vision records and have since laid down a 10-track effort with producer Brian McTernan (Hot Water Music, Circa Survive). The date of release is TBA.

Destroy the Runner - I, Lucifer

destroy the runner's new album was released today.

i'm listening to it for the first time now and it's incredibly generic melodic metalcore, so basically they sound like still remains with less synths and haste the day with hardly any screaming.
oh well... it makes for some decent background music.

drugs indeed. this phenomenal band plays an instrumentally experimental mix of math rock, progressive rock, jazz, post-hardcore, and OH, they make me feel so. damn. good. you know you want some ;)

disclaimer: this is obviously an analogy. but pretty weird coming from a straight edge girl, huh.

The six songs on this EP depict the spiritual path of a band whose journey has been blessed with happiness and marred by tragedy. With worldwide demand and a positive message, the Portland, OR based band will be touring throughout the year and beyond.

Oh, Sleeper - When I Am God

Members of the band have previously been a part of various acts including Terminal, Between The Buried and Me, and As Cities Burn.

Oh, Sleeper brings a full plate of heavy and dark guitars with thought out lyrics that refuse to shy away from truth. The lyrics have a strong purpose:

Why do we keep what holds us?
Why do I keep what holds me down?
Lose the weight of defeat.
It's time to stand your ground!
Vices like vipers
Speak in whispers.
My heel's the meat to sink their teeth,
Like the viper I kept
when You said, "Let go!"

Music is a weapon and they plan to fully utilize this divine appointment for nothing other than a purpose greater than themselves.

Ryan Conley (drummer)
Everyone in this project refuses to continue on with our lives until we've made the difference that we are supposed to make in music.
Lucas Starr (bass)
At the end of the day, a song is nothing more than a bunch of notes and chords strategically thrown together. I feel there is something more to this life than writing a hit song and selling records. Anyone can learn how to play an instrument, but what good is it if you only use that talent for self gratification?

Burden Of A Day - Pilots & Paper Planes

With their debut album Pilots & Paper Planes, Burden Of A Day burst out of Florida with a musical prowess full of catchy hooks and anthemic vocals that still packs an intensity not often felt from such young bands.

Pilots & Paper Planes was released in 2006; Blessed Be Our Ever After (2008) has been seeing many spins on my iPod lately.

Secret And Whisper - Great White Whale

"We all have our secrets"
The much anticipated debut release from the Canadian band Secret and Whisper, Great White Whale is truly a piece of work. Nearly one year in the making, this release delivers the goods. If you're a fan of Saosin or Circa Survive, you will dig this band. The instrumentalists were all previously a part of Stutterfly. With the addition of Chris Furney, former vocalist of thebleedingalarm, the band decided a name change was in order.

Meet Secret and Whisper.

This is perhaps what Saosin would sound like today if Anthony Green were still the front man.
