Weezer - Weezer (Red Album)

Weezer. If you haven't heard of them, there's something wrong with you. Catchy pop hooks. Crunchy guitar.

The band's third self-titled release, dubbed the Red Album, just leaked. Thankfully this album sounds nothing like their previous effort, Make Believe. Definitely give this album a listen.

Inept - So Much Between Us

Inept is a high energy rock band from Chicago Illinois. With passion, charisma, and dedication, Inept has made a name in the Midwest music scene. They bring an explosive live show to each stage that they perform on. Inept has played on the 2004 and 2005 Warped Tour, the 2006 Taste of Chaos tour, Dirtfest 2006, and The Bamboozle Left in 2006.

These guys have played Minneapolis a couple times, at the Quest (which has since burned down) and the Toybox (which has since gone out of business). They have tons of stage presence, and immense energy. Their songs feature catchy choruses, with soaring vocal melodies, TBS-like call and answer harmonies, punchy drum beats, and crunchy guitar riffs. Inept is a band who is anything but what their name describes. Check it out.

standout track: Butterflies

Campus - We Are The Silence

Sorry about the low-quality album art :(
The music makes up for it though.

Campus is a little-known hardcore band from Belgium, with the potential to make it big. Their sound is a huge wall of crushing guitar, frequently featuring melodic lead guitar lines. They are well rehearsed at the art of the breakdown; some feature a chorus of yells, and many featuring dissonant guitar work. This band was a surprise hit for me. If you like hard-hitting guitar, give it a listen.

The Wedding Discography

The Wedding's myspace page lists their genre description as:
"Rock / Rock / Rock"

Thats about all you need to know, but I'll tell you more, because I love these guys. The Wedding is from Fayetteville, Arkansas, a little town in the middle of nowhere. They've gone through some line-up changes, but have always made sure that all their members are good Jesus-loving dudes, and that their music rocks hard with a little influence from the dirty south.

Oh yeah, and Polarity features a brass section, strings, piano, and a BAGPIPE!

The Wedding. GET ROWDY!

Three Years Hiding - We Lost Ourselves & Found Our Way To This

Pop-rock brilliance...Combinging the atmospheric indie sound of Minus The Bear, the layered vocal assault of Taking Back Sunday and melody driven Jimmy Eat World style choruses, TYH are a delight...There are so many hooks that make them stand-alone...Sometimes cute, sometimes arrogant and often brilliant this debut is one of the strongest of its genre in a long long time.
Big Cheese Magazine

Three Years Hiding is a rock/pop punk band from the UK. Their album just came out, and it's chock full of melodic hooks. There's even a piano ballad half way through. I love the singer's accent. A good summer album.

The Raconteurs - Consolers of the Lonely

I was surprised that none of the other authors have posted this yet. But here's the new one. It came out yesterday, but has been leaked for a while. You can get it here if you haven't already gotten it somewhere else.

According to the official website, "The seed was sown in an attic in the middle of a hot summer when friends Jack White and Brendan Benson got together and wrote a song that truly inspired them. This song was "Steady, As She Goes" and the inspiration led to the creation of a full band with the addition of Lawrence and Keeler." The band came together in Detroit during 2005 and recorded when time allowed for the remainder of the year. Due to the various members success in other bands, they were quickly dubbed a supergroup. The band, however, asserted they were not, saying that the term implies something pre-planned, whereas they are actually "a new band made up of old friends."

As Tall As Lions - As Tall As Lions

"sing into the moonlight,
who could ask for more?”

As Tall As Lions can soar like U2, groove like Days Away, get as technical as Gatsby’s American Dream, rock out like Brand New, experiment like The Mars Volta, and even emote like Damien Rice. Seamlessly streamlining these qualities, the band has turned out a surprisingly adult, grown-up, complete, hypnotic, entrancing, brave, and layered sophomore effort with lasting appeal to boot. I’m just about out of adjectives, but please don’t miss one of the best that 2006 has to offer. It requires more than a single listen to truly consume and digest the songwriting which at first might seem to blend, but all efforts will be handsomely rewarded, and soon each track becomes distinct. Even summer sometimes succumbs to rainfall, nighttime, and gloom, and this record soundtracks those darker times, when sunshine gives way to the moonlight and the fog.

Owen - At Home With Owen

Mike Kinsella, a multi-instrumentalist from Chicago also known for his involvement in American Football, is the sole creative force in Owen.

"Kinsella brings to mind the acousticity of Elliott Smith...with subtexts that range from the somber folk reflection of Nick Drake and the cracked emotionalism of Paul Westerberg to the glorious pop melancholy of Joe Pernice"
- Harp.

Secret And Whisper - Great White Whale

"We all have our secrets"
The much anticipated debut release from the Canadian band Secret and Whisper, Great White Whale is truly a piece of work. Nearly one year in the making, this release delivers the goods. If you're a fan of Saosin or Circa Survive, you will dig this band. The instrumentalists were all previously a part of Stutterfly. With the addition of Chris Furney, former vocalist of thebleedingalarm, the band decided a name change was in order.

Meet Secret and Whisper.

This is perhaps what Saosin would sound like today if Anthony Green were still the front man.
