Reuben

‘Look like tramps, sound like Kings’

Reuben are a three-piece musical group from United Kingdom. Their music can be said to be a fusion of alt-rock and hevy metal, as their songs cover a variety of styles, ranging from heavy and upbeat, such as their 2005 single "Blamethrower" to slower, more melodic songs such as their 2004 single "Moving to Blackwater". The former style of song often features vocalist Jamie switching between shouting and whispering, a technique often used in heavy metal and post-hardcore music.

In Flight Radio - The Sound Inside

As some may know, I'm nearly finished with my Music Production Minor at my college. I want to produce, or at least engineer the recording of music. My purpose in bringing this up is to describe In Flight Radio:

Brooklyn-born songwriter, lead singer and guitarist, Peira, has an amazingly smooth and wispy voice, the tone an audio engineer dreams about. Her vocal tone is the centerpiece of the album. I can only imagine, but I would guess that every mixing decision was made with her vox in highest priority. Everything else on the album compliments her voice perfectly. A job well done by the studio team.
Ethereal British-influenced rock with lush female vocals and atmospheric guitars.

In Flight Radio has arrived at a place where they feel they can stay true to their indie-rock roots, while also touching on the British rock anthems and shoegazing textures that they grew up listening to. It's a sound that can be felt as well as heard. It is truly The Sound Inside.

The Kooks - Inside In / Inside Out

The Kooks formed at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music in England, where they were all students. (Like similar success story of the Columbia University students that make up Vampire Weekend!) They originally started as a college project and grew into a full-blown band.

This album was released in 2006 but it is still one of my all-time favorites. "She Moves in Her Own Way" is probably my favorite but "Naive" has also gained popularity on the charts.

Sidenote--Their next album "Konk" is scheduled to release tomorrow but naturally, it's already leaked. I'll post it in the future!

AND for you Minneapolisans--The Kooks will be playing the Fine Line Music Cafe on May 31st. Tickets range from $49-$218 which is pretty steep but probably worth it if you can make it!

Three Years Hiding - We Lost Ourselves & Found Our Way To This

Pop-rock brilliance...Combinging the atmospheric indie sound of Minus The Bear, the layered vocal assault of Taking Back Sunday and melody driven Jimmy Eat World style choruses, TYH are a delight...There are so many hooks that make them stand-alone...Sometimes cute, sometimes arrogant and often brilliant this debut is one of the strongest of its genre in a long long time.
Big Cheese Magazine

Three Years Hiding is a rock/pop punk band from the UK. Their album just came out, and it's chock full of melodic hooks. There's even a piano ballad half way through. I love the singer's accent. A good summer album.

Klaxons - Myths Of The Near Future

This album was released a little over a year ago and I still find myself turning to it every time I need a pick-me-up or a spur-of-the-moment dance party with the roomies (cough, Emily). You should prooooobably download it.

I'm a little bit obsessed with every song but "It's Not Over Yet" is particularly great for a dramatic interpretive dance session. If you're not down with your inner dancer you could always just go for a jog whilst playing this album too, that's cool.

The Last Shadow Puppets - The Age of the Understatement

Have hope all you Arctic Monkeys fans who have been itching for news about the band since their second release, Favourite Worst Nightmare! The band's lead singer, Alex Turner is teaming up with Miles Kane (lead guitar for the now-separated The Little Flames/lead singer for the newly formed The Rascals) to form the dream team of British indie rockpop. They're not too bad on the eyes, either. Their first studio album, The Age of the Understatement, is set to be released on April 21. Check out the single to get a taste of Britain's finest: The Last Shadow Puppets.

oh and go to their site to see the sweet vid.
