My favorites include 'Brighter Than Sunshine' and 'Easier to Lie'. The singles certainly have a "radio appeal" (you can decide for yourself whether that is a good thing or a bad thing), but are both very well-written and -structured songs.

Gitans Blonds - Best of Latcho & Andrea
The Blond Gypsies I discovered when I was living in Sayulita, Mexico last year. They performed every Thursday night at a local restaurant in town and I became an immediate fan! Latcho and Andrea are married and have been performing together for decades all over the world. They're both German which is kind of strange to hear such incredible Flamenco soul come from anyone without some sort of Latin background, but they certainly don't fall short in any way. Latcho plays lead guitar. He is amazing, and his wife Andrea plays so steady along with him. I am so surprised they aren't more well known, because the talent is definitely there, but I feel lucky to have seen such great music from these two live so many times, for free! If you like the Gypsy Kings, you will love Gitans Blonds!!! Enjoy.

Tyler Ramsey - A Long Dream About Swimming Across the Sea

Tyler Ramsey's soothing voice and intricate guitar will haunt your mind for hours after listening. Comparable to Andy McKee in some senses, his guitar picking skills are incredible. In my own opinion, it is best to just sit and relax while listening to this album. Allow yourself to absorb each and every note played.
My personal favorite on the album is Ramsey's cover of Jackson Browne's "These Days." It definitely gives it justice.
NOTE: Did I mention he plays with Band of Horses now? And that he has an awesome beard? And that I saw him play and my jaw dropped?

Band of Horses - Cease to Begin
Figured somebody besides David better write something before people start thinking this is a XXMETALXBLOGXX. So I'll go ahead with an obsession album I discovered thanks to Minneapolis' The Current. On that note:
Band of Horses second full length album, "Cease to Begin," creates a downhome country feel that you wouldn't expect from a band formed in Seattle. However, the band's beard-toting lead singer Ben Bridwell is a South Carolina native, and the band currently resides there. They also record in North Carolina, so the source of influence is evident. Now don't get me wrong, you won't hear chants of lost wives and dogs, but much more honest lyrics of life and love. Try "No One's Gonna Love You" on your next girlfriend and tell me it doesn't get you something. Simplistic guitar rhythms, driving drum beats, and the hints of ragtime-esque piano keep the southern theme afloat, but won't infringe.
Overall, a great sing-along album that will impress from start to finish.
NOTE: Tyler Ramsey has recently joined the band on guitar, a inclusion they will certainly not regret. He also has a great beard. Stay tuned for a T-Rams blog.
SECOND NOTE: After reading a Rolling Stones article on Band of Horses, I've learned there first album "Everything All the Time" was produced by Phil Ek of Shins and Built to Spill fame. Wizard.
THIRD NOTE: After finishing reading aforementioned RS article, this gem of a quote was found:

Saltillo is the project of Menton J. Matthews, also of the critically-acclaimed band Sunday Munich. With Saltillo, Matthews delves deep into the disused corridors of our hidden hiding places, distilling the painfully honest solitude, longings, disappointments and aching needs at the heart of our secret selves into the pure sound of emotional honesty. This is the sound of our shared disillusionment and hope.
A classically trained musician, Matthews is an impressive multi-instrumentalist, playing cello, viola, violin, guitar, drums, piano, and bass, as well as a slew of electronics. He has spent the last few years refining his song-writing abilities by scoring film soundtracks and doing production work at the mixing desk.
Ganglion is the debut CD from this amazing project, a melancholy masterpiece of trip hop bliss and night-time beats.

Darkest Hour - Deliver Us
Deliver Us is the fifth studio album by Darkest Hour. This album hits you in the face with pure guitar skill, with tapping and six-string sweeps abound. In addition, there are a great many guitar solos - with a sound and speed reminiscent of DragonForce - yet the band doesn't forget their death metal/metalcore roots. There are still plenty of fast heavy riffs that will leave metalheads satisfied. For drummers, there are plenty of insane double-kick tricks. The penultimate track, 'Full Imperial Collapse' features an especially experimental and improvisational feel, especially in the guitar solo. Much like their previous release, Undoing Ruin, the two major standout tracks on the album are the first and the last, 'Doomsayer (The Beginning of the End)' and the title track, respectively.

Darkest Hour - Undoing Ruin
Undoing Ruin is the fourth studio album by Darkest Hour, a melodic metal group from Washington D.C. It was the band's first album to enter the Billboard album charts, debuting at #138. The album features plenty of heavy riffs and pounding drum patterns. Two standout tracks include the first track, 'With A Thousand Words To Say But One', and 'Tranquil', the closer.

Oh, Sleeper - When I Am God
Members of the band have previously been a part of various acts including Terminal, Between The Buried and Me, and As Cities Burn.
Oh, Sleeper brings a full plate of heavy and dark guitars with thought out lyrics that refuse to shy away from truth. The lyrics have a strong purpose:

At the end of the day, a song is nothing more than a bunch of notes and chords strategically thrown together. I feel there is something more to this life than writing a hit song and selling records. Anyone can learn how to play an instrument, but what good is it if you only use that talent for self gratification?

The Sound of Animals Fighting - Tiger and the Duke
Tiger and the Duke is the first album by the progressive rock band The Sound of Animals Fighting.
It is a concept album featuring a story that takes place on a boat. The plot revolves around the title character, Duke, and the captain of the ship.
On October 12th, 2006 a bulletin was posted on the band's myspace page stating that "Tiger and the Duke" is officially out of print. The album was reissued via Equal Vision Records on June 26, 2007 with an expanded tracklist.

With The Sound of Animals Fighting, shows and the project itself are mainly based on improvisation and creation in the moment. The first record was recorded all in one day, improvised, all on the spot. With the second record, same deal. But, with Circa there's more passion, more time on my end. Because I know that the Rx Bandits and I know everyone that works on The Sound of Animals Fighting put so much of their own personal energy in it. But, my personal energy is spent directly on Circa. That's what I love doing. But, The Sound of Animals Fighting is such a fun project to be a part of though.
