The Ting Tings - We Started Nothing
The Ting Tings are an English indie/electronic band, consisting of two members: Jules De Martino (drums, vocals) and Katie White (vocals, guitar, bass drum). The female vocalist trend is getting big now, but The Ting Tings bring a fresh sound.
The band was formed in 2006, and by January 2008 they were voted third in the annual BBC 6 Music poll of industry experts Sound of 2008, for acts to emerge in the coming year. They were the opening slot act on the 2008 Shockwaves NME Awards Tour, performing with The Cribs, Joe Lean And The Jing Jang Jong and Does It Offend You, Yeah?.

The One AM Radio - A Name Writ in Water
The One AM Radio is the musical project of Hrishikesh Hirway, a composer and songwriter from Los Angeles. The sound is lush, soothing, almost ethereal vocals over dream-like instrumental arrangements. He does most of his own recording, playing several of the instruments and producing all the beats; the style borders electronica, folk, post-rock, chamber music, and ambient music. Live, he is joined by a changing line-up of accompanists.

James Chapman's We Can Create is the kind of album that blows you away. Bringing together the styles of The Flaming Lips, Moby, Air, M83, and Sigur Ros, Chapman has created a truly epic soundscape. Very surprisingly (considering the plummeting costs of digital recording), Chapman ambitiously recorded the album by tediously splicing bits together on his old 16-track recorder in his basement in Northampton, England. But don't let that discourage you from testing this one out- its was co-produced by the mastermind that produced Sigur Ros.

Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend
The self-titled first album of NYC's Vampire Weekend is one sure to please.
Well, I don't have much to say besides the fact that I'm in love with it right now, and if you listen try to catch the African musical influence in the album. It's incredible how some bands can take something so unique and adapt it to a more popular and contemporary scene.

I Was A Cub Scout - I Want You To Know That There Is Always Hope
I Was a Cub Scout was originally a one-man band, consisting solely of Todd Marriott. Lacking a drummer, Marriott used a drum machine. William Bowerman joined the band in mid 2006, and has played drums since.
The band spent about six months playing house parties and night clubs in England, which paid off, with their exposure gaining them popularity.
The songs are nice and "bouncy", with plenty of sing-along choruses.

Tyler Ramsey's soothing voice and intricate guitar will haunt your mind for hours after listening. Comparable to Andy McKee in some senses, his guitar picking skills are incredible. In my own opinion, it is best to just sit and relax while listening to this album. Allow yourself to absorb each and every note played.
My personal favorite on the album is Ramsey's cover of Jackson Browne's "These Days." It definitely gives it justice.
NOTE: Did I mention he plays with Band of Horses now? And that he has an awesome beard? And that I saw him play and my jaw dropped?

Emancipator - Soon It Will Be Cold Enough

Emancipator escaped from the Underground Railroad Chain Gang in the 11th century. He invented the hot air balloon, with which he chartered the Amazon River. He invented wine.Incorporating violins, keys, various samples and the occasional voice sample, this Emancipator has put together a release more than worthy of the attention of record labels. The fact that this album was funded not by a record label, but by a college student who records in his spare time, is quite admirable. He has recently been signed to Hydeout Productions, which will be releasing Soon It Will Be Cold Enough on April 25th.
Emancipator found the formula for the crystallization of ice during a quiet Japanese winter. He perfected the art of agriculture. He can climb trees faster than you.
Emancipator bleeds ambrosia. He discovered Iceland. He can breathe underwater.
Emancipator lives in a fortress made of moon rock. His presence attracts songbirds. He can recite all the digits of pi.
Emancipator can do a barrel roll by pressing Z or R once.

MGMT - Time To Pretend

MGMT (formerly known as "the management") seems to pull from the oddest combination of genres. While at times MGMT has a playful 70's dance sound in songs like "Electric Feel", they move on to a much more classic rock, Rolling Stones-esque sound in songs like "Pieces of What." They can also throw something much more psychedelic in songs like "4th Dimensional Transition."

The Mae Shi - HLLLYH
For these guys, its ALL about the music, and having fun. The way it should be.
The Mae Shi released their first album, Terrorbird, in 2004. In order to promote the release, the band embarked on a 31-day, 32-show tour, without using a booking agent. The band offered to play any birthday party, wedding, or bar mitzvah for $100.Check out their website.
