"Stay Classy, San Diego"
Greetings, Mix Tape Mixers.
Thanks for checking out the site over these past months, especially those who have been with us from the start.
A while ago, I set a deadline of when I would call it quits on Mix Tape Mix. Well, that deadline is here.
I will keep the blog open, and whoever wants to step up and start posting, leave your email address in a comment. I will be handing over admin duties to a friend, and I'll be checking back in once in a while to see how things are going.
Farewell.

Noah and the Whale - Peaceful, the World Lays Me Down
Noah and the Whale are a folk rock band from Twickenham, London, England formed in 2006. Their name is a marriage of the title of one of the band's favorite films, "The Squid and the Whale," and the name of the director (Noah Baumbach).
The band cite both punk rock and folk as influences.
Their album, "Peaceful, the World Lays me Down" has received positive reviews, and was released on August 11th.

Bleeding Through - Declaration (Advance)
Bleeding Through with a new album entitled Declaration, a “concept album” about the rigors of being away from home. Street date: Sept 30th.
Some of the songs are named for different cities or states, frontman Brandan Schieppati told Revolver in the magazine’s May 2008 issue. “There are definitely places when we’re traveling where every time we go there, we’re like, ‘Fuck, why do we have to be here?’ Like, we’ll be in France and all of a sudden we’ll feel totally insignificant. You get the feeling that people’s eyes are just burning a hole through you.”

The Bug - London Zoo
"London Zoo" was born of three key moments. An introduction to the thriving Dub-Step scene (of which The Bug is very much a pioneer before it carried a name) and it's key producers (via Kode 9) where Kevin realized there was others on the same sonic trajectory as himself, an introduction to Warrior Queen via his work with Wayne Lonesome on the Razor X Productions project, and a Mary Anne Hobb's Breezeblock session which introduced him to Flowdan (Roll Deep), and Ricky Ranking. All three of which figure heavily in the end result and live presentation.

Tittsworth's debut album, the not so annonymous 12 Steps, showcases his talent as producer, not content with simply editing and remixing other people's music. Instead, he has crafted an original record of beats and songs that draw from different genres and places on the map, demonstrating the full gamut of Tittworth's vision.

Mel Gibson and the Pants - Sea vs. Shining Sea [2007]
You like Doomtree?
Sea vs. Shining Sea is the third release from Mel Gibson and the Pants. This time around, they brought together Doomtree artists Sims, Mictlan, and Dessa, as well as Crescent Moon of Kill the Vultures, and Jake Luck of Thinder in the Valley. Recorded by Joe Mabbot in 2005, and designed by Jesse Willenbring, with drawing contributions from Jacy Catlin. First time they've done a jewel case, also the first lyric booklet. The seas are exploding with battles, its time they were brought to the surface.

V is the first studio album by Australian pop group Van She, released on August 9, 2008 by Modular Records. In honor of the National Poetry Slam going on now (August 3-9) in Madison, Wisconsin. This is Buddy Wakefield. Buddy won the Individual World Poetry Slam Competition in 2004 and 2005. Sage Francis appears (and actually the name of Sage's last record 'Human the Death Dance' is taken from a Buddy piece of the same name.)
To quote Buddy directly:
"If you've never been rocked back by the presence of purpose
this poem is too soon for you.

norma jean's new album, the anti-mother, reeks of old thrice (as in, pre-vheissu) vocals and typical nj rah rah fake-grindcore brutality. combining those sounds don't quite create a new sound that is wholly unique, but this is at least listenable enough if you remember to forget the greatness that preceded cory brandan. or maybe this album will just grow on me... i think i'm being hopeful here.

Jay Reatard - Blood Visions (2006)
If The Futureheads stopped being british and turned up the punk knob this might happen...maybe not. Either way this is very catchy late 70's/early 80's type punk perfected all the way down to the production. Simple, raw, and full of youth. I am reminded of the Buzzcocks, Richard Hell, and Wire...basically the greats. It's been a while since something of this caliber has been released and could still be considered "punk". The lyrics are brimming with drunken fun and lack of inhabitions as well (see the title of this review). It would be pretty punk to steal this album, but it would be even more punk to buy something from someone who has definitely created something great.i stole this from a private forum, so enjoi :D

Dropkick Murphys - The Meanest of Times
It is my firm belief that everyone should have at least one album by the Dropkick Murphys in their music library. The Meanest of Times is the sixth album by the Celtic punk band. It was released on September 18, 2007... their major label debut, as all of their previous albums were released on the independent label Hellcat Records.
On the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, the album debuted at number 20, selling about 28,000 copies in its first week.[3] This album was #49 on Rolling Stone's list of the Top 50 Albums of 2007. Instrumentation includes plenty of drums and guitars, accordion, bagpipes, mandolin, tin whistle, and bodhrán.

Beck - Modern Guilt
Beck's new album Modern Guilt, produced with Brian "Danger Mouse" Burton, will be released July 8, 2008.
The new album contains 10 new songs, and with the exception of last year's Grammy-nominated, digital-only single "Timebomb", Modern Guilt is the first new material Beck has written since the prolific stretch that produced 2005's platinum Guero and 2006's universally acclaimed The Information.
Modern Guilt is a tightly assembled group of songs that range in lyrical tone from introspection and social commentary to off the cuff wordplay and lighthearted humor. Musically, the album's ten tracks vacillate between economy and experimentation, hybrid and pop classicism, while consistently manifesting Beck and Danger Mouse's shared interest in psych-rock, folk, electronic minimalism and orchestration.
Beck is about to embark on a tour of the UK and Europe, followed by a number of US headline and festival appearances, culminating in Beck's biggest hometown headline show to date, September 20, 2008 at the Hollywood Bowl.
